Getting started
This page walks you from signing in to creating your first issue.
Signing in
Open your TaskFlow instance in a browser and sign in with your email and password.
- If your organisation allows self-registration, use Register to create an account — you'll give an email, a password and your name, and confirm you accept the terms of use and the privacy policy. If registration is closed, an administrator creates your account and gives you the credentials.
- Forgot your password? Use Forgot password to get a reset link by email.
Sign-in options vary by instance
Administrators can close self-registration, or switch off password sign-in entirely for organisations that authenticate people another way. If the registration link or the password fields aren't there, that's a deliberate setting, not a fault.
Finding your way around
The top bar is the main navigation:
- Menu groups — Create, Work, Planning, Analytics, Service Desk and Admin organise pages by what you're doing. Which groups you see depends on your role and which features are enabled, so a shorter menu than a colleague's is normal.
- Project selector — most pages (issues, boards, backlog, sprints, calendar, reports) show data for the active project. Pick it here.
- Search and Notifications — icons on the right; the bell carries a live unread count.
- Theme switcher — dark, dark compact, light, high contrast, or follow your system.
- Your avatar — opens your profile or signs you out.
The left sidebar is contextual: it shows the sub-pages of wherever you are — the list of administration pages, Create board, Create sprint, and so on. You can drag its edge to resize it, and double-click to reset the width.
Pick a project first
Issues, boards, backlog, sprints, the calendar and most reports are empty until you select a project. That's expected — choose one from the top selector, or open Projects and make one active.
Changing the language
The language switcher isn't in the top bar — your interface language is a profile setting. See Profile → Interface language.
Your first project
- Open Projects and choose Create project.
- Give it a key, a name and optionally a description. The key becomes the prefix of every issue — key
TFproducesTF-1,TF-2, and so on. - Make it active so the other pages show its data.
- As the creator you administer the project: open its Roles tab to add people or whole groups and give them project roles.
For the permission model, see Administration → Users & permissions.
Your first issue
- With a project active, open Issues (or a board) and create an issue.
- Give it a type, a summary, and optionally a description, assignee, priority and labels.
- Save. The issue gets a key like
TF-1and appears on the board in its starting status.
Your instance may also offer a Create menu in the top bar — a shortcut your administrator configures for the things your team creates most often.
From the issue page you can write comments and mention colleagues, attach files, break the work into sub-tasks, add co-assignees, link related issues, watch it for changes, and move it through the workflow with the status selector. Depending on which features are on, you'll also find checklists, time tracking and SLA timers.
Everything about working with issues is covered in Issues & tasks.
